Viewing Terms
The
Translations of Numismatic Terms, Show Translations
and
Help
are the only pages available to the general public. After a period of inactivity, the application will automatically disconnect from the server. If you experience any difficulties, refresh the browser page.
Use a current browser
This application was designed using the most up-to-date web standards, so use a current browser. The site is optimized for Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 and Foxfire 3.6, both available for free. Older browsers may not display all features properly.
Choose a language
On any page, click on the globe icon in the top right corner to choose your language. (Scroll to right if necessary to find it.) One advantage of selecting a specific language is the presence of a "Translated?" dropdown filter that allows you to select only the translated or untranslated terms for that language.
Find a term
Use the search engine to locate any term. The search is not case sensitive and looks for the search criteria in all the languages. The default sort order of the table is based on the English column. You may re-sort the table by clicking on any language column heading.
Show details
For more information about a term, including its context or explanation, click on the Show Record magnifying glass icon in the left margin of the row in which it appears.
Download a document
On the main
Translations of Numismatic Terms
page you may click on the appropriate icon to download Excel, Word, and PDF documents that contain the items you have selected for the current filtered view. However, these documents have not yet been properly formatted.
Add and Edit Terms
Additional pages are available to authorized editors that permit editing and adding terms.
Click on the icon in the top right corner of any page and provide your credentials. After you sign in, additional icons appear on the
Translations of Numismatic Terms
page that will link you to the
Edit Translations
and
Add Translation
pages.
Edit an existing term
To edit a term, on the main
Translations of Numismatic Terms
page click on the Edit Record icon in the left margin of the row in which it appears. You will be taken to the
Edit Translations
page.
-
Please edit a translated term only if you are a native speaker of the language or confident your translation is correct
-
Make your corrections to the desired term. There is a 256 character limit for each translation
-
Put a check mark in the Translated checkbox
-
Do not translate words or phrases within curly brackets, for example {ColumnName}
-
Do not translate the "Context/Explanation" field which is provided only in English
-
When your changes are complete, click the Save button at the bottom of the page to commit the changes
Translation Table vs. User Interface
After you edit a term, your translation will appear immediately in the translations table. However, that same term will not change in the user interface (labels, buttons, titles, menus, headings, etc.) until the application is recompiled. For example, if you change the French term used on the search button from
Cherchez
to
Chercher,
the correction will appear immediately in the table, but the button label will remain as
Cherchez
until the application has been recompiled. Send me an email if you have changed a term that is not appearing properly in the UI.
Add a new term
Before adding a new term, search for similar terms to avoid duplication. To add a term, on the main
Translations of Numismatic Terms
page click on the Add icon, the left-most icon in the row of icons above the table. You will be taken to the
Add Translation
page. On this page, at a minimum, you must provide the Resx Key and the English term.
-
The Resx Key is a short, unique word in the form Txt:MyNewTerm, with no spaces. For example, Txt:Doublestrike
-
Select the appropriate Group from the dropdown box, usually "Numismatic terms"
-
Replace [English] with the English term
-
Optionally, but importantly, please provide the context/explanation of the term in English to assist others in translating it properly
-
Optionally, supply translations for the various languages. No field may be blank
-
When your additions are complete, click the Save button at the bottom of the page to commit the change and return to the previous page, or click the Save and New button to commit the change and then add another new term
Delete a term
Deletions can only be made by request; send me an email if a removal is necessary.
